At the same time, senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram believes that the Election Commission's SIR has had no impact on the election results. Speaking to the media in Karaikudi, Chidambaram said that there is no basis for Vijay's claims that TVK's victory in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections or DMK's defeat was due to deletion of people's names from the voter list.

The senior Congress leader and former Union Finance and Home Minister said that the voters whose names were removed from the SIR should have been included in the list. Chidambaram said that the opposition parties will have to prove that there was vote manipulation. The Congress leader said that the Election Commission removed the names of voters, it is wrong, but it does not seem that only because of this TVK won and DMK lost. P. Chidambaram also rejected any possibility of holding fresh elections in the states. He said that the Constitution does not allow re-election by canceling the elections once held. Chidambaram demanded stopping of SIR. He also demanded that the names of 13.3 crore people whose names were removed after SIR in 20 states, should be added to the voter list.
The news of differences between the SIR and two Election Commissioners with the Chief Election Commissioner was in the news recently. Regarding this, P. Chidambaram said that if Gyanesh Kumar does not resign, then in the next meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the Indian Alliance, it will be decided what further steps should be taken. The Congress leader said that the Supreme Court could be approached or an impeachment motion could be brought. After the news of differences between the election commissioners and two commissioners filing objections 14 times in 10 months, the Election Commission had issued a statement saying that different opinions and suggestions during internal deliberations are part of the normal process. The Election Commission has also clearly said that it has taken all other decisions including SIR unanimously.
