New Delhi. Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi targeted the government on the issue of crimes against women and appealed to the youth, especially 'Gen G' women, to take to the streets in large numbers and protest. He said that this deaf government will listen only under pressure. Gandhi, in a post on 'X', said thousands of students and youth are on the streets demanding women's safety and he urged more young women of the country, especially Gen Z women, to join the protest in large numbers.
Along with this, he also released a video, in which he mentioned the alleged rape of a student of Lady Shri Ram College and some other incidents. He said, this government is deaf to your pain and will listen only when pressure is put on it. Peaceful protest is your democratic right and I am with you wholeheartedly. Gandhi said that women should not be punished for crimes and that women in the country were afraid to walk on the streets, facing harassment and rape. He alleged that the government's only answer is that women should stay at home.
The Congress leader said that this is patriarchy, in which the victim is blamed and the culprit gets protection. He said that this needs to end. He said the solution is not to lock women in their homes, but to make roads safe, confront the mentality of men who abuse women and punish those who attack women swiftly and without exception. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said, this government is deaf to your pain. It will listen only when pressure is put on it. It is your democratic right to protest peacefully and I am with you wholeheartedly.
