India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has given a big statement regarding US. He said that the US is not serious about India's security priorities, which he termed as a major problem in the relations between the two countries. Jaishankar indirectly held Pakistan responsible for cross-border terrorism and expressed displeasure over the US not taking any concrete action against Pakistan.
Jaishankar is currently on a US tour and addressed an event organized by Asia Society in New York. At the event, he commented on the reasons why there is still some distance in India-US relations. Jaishankar clearly said that along with trade difficulties, state-sponsored terrorism is also a major issue complicating the relations between the two countries. Without naming Pakistan, Jaishankar said India's neighbor uses terrorism as a tool of its state policy and has a long history in this regard.
Jaishankar firmly said that security is the most important issue for India. He said, “If something is very important for us and a friendly country is not sensitive to our concerns, then it will definitely cause problems and it will affect the relationship.” Jaishankar said that if any friendly country does not understand India's concerns, then it will clearly affect the relations between the two countries.
India has been raising the issue of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism for a long time at different international forums. However, it has been claimed that no concrete action has been taken against Pakistan yet. Specifically, the text notes that the Trump Administration has adopted a restrained approach in holding Pakistan accountable on the issue of terrorism.
It has also been mentioned that the Trump Administration has adopted an aggressive trade policy against its friendly countries. It is being said that the US is now preparing to impose 100 percent tariff on countries buying oil from Russia. Concern is being expressed about this in India also. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar recently met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The issue of tariff was also discussed during this meeting.
