Weather Update: The departure of the Southwest Monsoon is progressing over the North-Western parts of the country, though the rains are not going to stop completely. Several weather systems are simultaneously active in different parts of the country, including five cyclonic circulations. Due to this, there is a possibility of rain, thunder and strong winds in North-East, South India and some central and western states.

IMD According to the official warning of 29 and 30 September, there is a warning of heavy rain and thundershowers in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Tamil Nadu-Puducherry is also predicted to experience heavy rain and thundershowers from September 29 to October 1.

Activate multiple systems simultaneously

Several cyclonic conditions in the country and surrounding areas are responsible for the current weather conditions. A deep depression system formed over the coast of Myanmar and the nearby Bay of Bengal moved towards the north-northwest. According to the IMD, the system was in the process of weakening after moving towards the coast of Myanmar. Apart from this, isolated cyclonic circulation conditions over East Uttar Pradesh, North-East Assam, Bay of Bengal, East-Central Arabian Sea and Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh vicinity are supporting rain conditions.

Threat of heavy rains in North-East India

Thunderstorm and thunderstorm warning with heavy rain has been issued for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on September 29 and 30. The current sub-division warning of IMD also indicates the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorm and lightning for these areas. Rain activity is also likely to continue in some parts of Assam and Meghalaya.

Next few days are important in South India

For Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the IMD has warned of heavy rain till September 29, September 30 and October 1. Thunderstorms and strong winds may occur in some areas. Kerala, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are also likely to witness rain during the next few days. Wind speed may reach 50 to 60 km per hour in some areas.

Where does it rain in North and Central India?

Some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh may receive light or scattered rain during September 29 to October 2. Light rain with thundershowers is also likely over Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh.

There is no heavy rain alert in Gujarat

The present sub-division warning of IMD for Gujarat is significant. No official warning of heavy rain or thundershowers has been issued for Gujarat as well as Saurashtra and Kutch from 29 September to 4 October. Therefore, there is a possibility of scattered light rains somewhere in the state, but there is no warning of widespread heavy rains.

Rains may continue in these states

From September 29, light to moderate rain is also likely to occur in some areas of Andaman-Nicobar, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand and Bihar in the coming days. For Andaman-Nicobar, IMD has issued a thundershower and thunderstorm warning.

Respite from rain in Delhi-NCR

Weather in Delhi and surrounding areas is likely to become dry gradually. Mostly clear skies are likely from September 30 to October 2. IMD’s current warning also has no special weather warning for Delhi-Haryana-Chandigarh. On one hand Monsoon is departing from North-West India, on the other hand rains may continue for few more days in many parts of the country due to systems around Bay of Bengal, Arabian Sea and South India.
