Barapula Phase-3 elevated corridor has been inaugurated to improve the traffic system in Delhi. Union Home Minister Amit Shah flagged off this corridor on Tuesday. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present on this occasion. With the commencement of this project, connectivity between Mayur Vihar Phase-1, Sarai Kale Khan and South Delhi is expected to improve. Especially the passengers going from Noida and East Delhi to South Delhi can get its benefit.
Corridor completed at a cost of Rs 1,635 crore
Barapula Phase-3 elevated corridor was approved in the year 2014. Under this project, about 11 km long elevated corridor was planned from Mayur Vihar Phase-1 to Sarai Kale Khan. Construction work began in 2015 and was targeted to be completed by 2017. However, the project was delayed by about nine years due to various hurdles.
Now the commencement of this corridor, built at a cost of approximately Rs 1,635 crore, is expected to strengthen the road connectivity between major areas of Delhi. This can also provide convenience to the passengers traveling towards AIIMS and South Delhi.
Rekha Gupta targeted the previous government
During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta raised questions on the previous government regarding the delay in the project. He said that during the inspection along with Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pravesh Verma, he had found a large part of the corridor incomplete. According to the Chief Minister, the bridge was constructed in different parts, while the important part in the middle remained incomplete for a long time.
Facilities for cycle track and pedestrians also
Apart from vehicles, the convenience of cyclists and pedestrians has also been taken care of in Barapula Phase-3 corridor. In this, a separate track has been made for cyclists and a special lane for pedestrians.
Long span structures and glass railings have been used in the portion built over the Yamuna river. This gives a special look to the structure of the corridor. The commissioning of the project is expected to help ease traffic in the area and improve the connectivity of Delhi-NCR.
