Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has called sugarcane farmers of Karnataka to Delhi for discussions with officials on the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane so that their concerns can be addressed instead of resorting to protests.
Responding to sugarcane farmers who were planning to protest in Hubballi on Tuesday, Joshi urged them to come to the national capital Delhi and talk to the concerned authorities to find solutions to their problems.
In a video message on social media platform X, Joshi said the PM Modi-led central government is always ready to address the concerns of farmers and welcomed sugarcane farmers of Karnataka for an open discussion in Delhi.
He said that I welcome the farmers of Karnataka to Delhi with full respect. We will arrange for farmer leaders to sit with the concerned officials and discuss their issues and find solutions.
Joshi said there was no need for farmers to protest on the streets and urged them to come forward for talks with the government.
He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is increasing the FRP of sugarcane every year. He said that in May this year the FRP was increased to Rs 365. This year also fair prices will be ensured for sugarcane farmers.
Joshi recalled that when he was going to attend an event in February 2026, farmer leaders had met him and demanded an increase in the FRP of sugarcane. He said that after this the Center increased the FRP to Rs 365 in May.
He said that no farmer representative met him after the increase but some farmers are now planning to protest again demanding further increase in FRP.
Joshi said that there is no need for protests. The central government is ready to respond to the concerns of farmers. He also made it clear that any decision on increasing the FRP of sugarcane will be taken after considering the recommendations of the Agricultural Costs and Prices Commission and the report and recommendations of the state sugarcane commissioner.
If you come directly to Delhi, we will discuss the matter with the concerned authorities and take steps towards ensuring fair pricing. I extend an open invitation to farmer leaders and protesters.
He said that the government is ready to discuss in detail the concerns and confusions of sugarcane farmers and take appropriate steps to provide relief to them. I assure the farmers that we will listen to their complaints with all humility and try our best to find the right solution. Therefore, I urge you to come for talks with the government.
