If your account is in the country's largest government bank State Bank of India (SBI), then note the date of October 1, 2026 in your diary. From October 1, SBI is going to make major changes in the rules of ATM transactions and cash withdrawal for its salary account and basic savings (BSBD) account holders. Some free transactions have been reduced and extra charges have been imposed on some.
New rules of SBI salary account
If you have a salary account in SBI, then using ATMs of other banks will prove to be a bit expensive. Till now salary account holders used to get 10 free transactions every month from ATMs of other banks. But from October 1, this has been reduced to only 5 free transactions per month. These 5 free transactions will include both cash withdrawal and balance check or mini statement.
How much will be charged after the free limit is over?
After the expiry of 5 free transactions, Rs 23 plus GST will be charged on cash withdrawal and Rs 11 plus GST on non-financial transactions like balance check or mini statement. It is a matter of relief that for using SBI's own ATM, the old rules and charges will remain applicable, no changes have been made in them. Also, there has been no change in the rules for normal savings account holders.
BSBD account rules also changed
Cash withdrawal limits and charges have also been revised for low income groups and BSBD accounts without minimum balance. The first 4 cash withdrawals every month, whether through SBI ATM or other bank ATM, branch or AEPS, will be absolutely free.
But after 4 free transactions are over, a charge of Rs 15 plus GST will be charged on every transaction from the 5th withdrawal. Note that BSBD account holders cannot maintain any other general savings account. If there is already a savings account, it is mandatory to close it within 30 days of opening BSBD.
Cardless cash withdrawal will remain free
There is great news for those making digital payments and withdrawing money from the YONO app. There will be no charge for cardless cash withdrawal from SBI ATM or ATM of other banks. It will remain completely unlimited and free in future too.
Keep these things in mind
First, instead of repeatedly swiping your card in another bank's ATM, use SBI's ATM only. Second, try cardless withdrawal from YONO app to withdraw cash, it is completely free. Third, instead of going to the ATM to check balance or view mini statement, use YONO or YONO Lite app so that your free transaction limit does not get reduced.
