Indian archers maintained their dominance in the compound event at the Asian Games 2026 and also won the gold medal in the men’s team category on Wednesday. The Indian trio of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Jadhav and Ganesh Thirumuru won the gold medal by defeating China 238-237 in a thrilling final. This is India’s tenth gold medal in the Asian Games.
With this victory, India won all three gold medals in compound archery in the Asian Games. Earlier, the Indian women’s compound team had won the gold by defeating China, while the pair of Chikita Taniparthy and Sahil Jadhav had won the gold medal in the compound mixed team event by defeating South Korea in a shootout.
India had a slow start in the men’s compound team final. In the first phase, China scored 60 points by scoring 10 points on six targets, while India could only score 58 points. Even after the second leg, China maintained its lead and the score remained 120-118.
The Indian trio made a brilliant comeback in the third leg. Sahil, Ganesh and Kushal scored 10 consecutive points in the beginning. After China scored 9 points on one arrow, India reduced the gap to one point. China was leading 179–178 at the end of the third leg.
In the decisive fourth leg, Indian archers performed well under pressure. Sahil, Ganesh and Kushal scored 10-10 points consecutively. At the same time, China’s Jiahao Liao’s 8-point target gave India the lead. After this, the Indian trio scored 10 points each on their last three arrows and completed 238 points and secured the gold medal by restricting China to 237.
Sahil performed brilliantly throughout the final and gave the team a strong start in the deciding stage as well. 20-year-old Ganesh and Kushal also ensured India’s victory by hitting accurate shots under pressure.
This is the fourth gold medal for India on Wednesday, while it is the third gold in archery. The golden success of the Indian women’s compound team, mixed team and now the men’s compound team has highlighted the strength of India’s compound archery in the Asian Games.
Earlier in the day, India had also won the gold medal in trap mixed team shooting. The pair of Neeru Dhanda and Kinan Chenai had won the title with an Asian record. In this way, archery and shooting played an important role in India’s gold medals on Wednesday.
