For example, companies currently using the business platform can reply to customer messages and send order updates completely free of charge. But this rule is going to change from October 1. Messages will be free up to a limit. But Meta Utility will charge for messages like order confirmations and delivery updates. The new rules will come into effect from October 1
Until now, companies using the WhatsApp Business platform could send a free reply to any customer within 24 hours of receiving a message. This includes answering questions regarding products or orders as well as order confirmations and delivery updates.
But now this rule is going to change from October 1. Meta will now charge companies for order updates and other utility messages sent within 24 hours. The first 1,000 service messages to answer customer questions for each business phone number will be free. After this companies will have to pay money to give additional reply. Utility messages sent after 24 hours are already charged. No change will be made in these rules.
How much will companies have to pay?
In India Meta has set a standard rate of Rs 0.115 per delivered message before GST for utility messages like order confirmations and delivery updates. After adding 18 percent GST, this rate comes to approximately Rs 0.136 per message.
For example, if a business sends 1,000 order updates, it will cost Rs 0.115 per delivered message before GST, or approximately Rs 0.136 per message after adding 18 percent GST. Depending on the type of message, the fee will be charged. Meta marketing messages like promotional offers and sale announcements will be charged at Rs 0.8631 per message while authentication messages like one-time password or OTP will be charged at Rs 0.115 per message before GST.
