New Delhi. Today once again a telephonic conversation took place between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has given this information through social media. Modi and Trump discussed regional and international issues, including enhancing bilateral cooperation between India and the US. PM Modi said that in the fruitful conversation with President Trump, we reviewed our mutual cooperation in trade, defence, energy, important technology and other areas. We agreed to maintain close contacts to advance our 'Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership'.
Modi and Trump also shared their views with each other on regional and international issues. Ongoing efforts to promote global peace and security were also discussed. This talk between the Indian PM and the US President happened at a time when just a day before, India's Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, during an event in New York, said in very clear words that America is not serious about India's security priorities and concerns. Jaishankar described this as a major obstacle in the relations between the two countries.
Jaishankar held Pakistan responsible for cross-border terrorism and said that America is not taking concrete action against it. If someone is very important to us but one of our allies is not sympathetic to our concerns, this will affect relations. At the same time, the discussion between Modi and Trump is also considered important because India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is currently on a tour of America. Goyal has gone to America to attend the G20 Trade Ministers meeting. A meeting is also to be held between Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Jameson Greer regarding the long pending India-US trade deal.
