Maruti Suzuki: Now high-tech safety will be available even in cheap cars, preparations to make ADAS standard

Maruti Suzuki is moving towards making big changes regarding the safety of its upcoming cars. The company plans to make modern technology like Advanced Driver Assistance System i.e. ADAS available in affordable models as well instead of limiting it to only expensive cars.
Suzuki laid out its vision for the future of safety technology in its recent technology strategy briefing. The company's focus is on ADAS features that can help reduce the risk of accidents during daily driving.

Which ADAS features will be the focus?
In the company's new approach, there is a plan to provide some important safety features to as many cars as possible. These may include technologies like autonomous emergency braking and lane departure prevention.
At the same time, adaptive cruise control and other convenience based features may be limited to expensive or top variants. With this, efforts will be made to reduce additional pressure on the price of budget cars and make the necessary safety technology available to more customers.
Camera and AI technology instead of radar
Suzuki is working on changes to the hardware setup to make the ADAS system affordable. In conventional systems many expensive equipment including radar sensors are used.
The company is working towards developing a system based on high-resolution cameras and advanced AI chips. In this, efforts are being made to reduce or eliminate the need for front radar. There are also plans to include driver and passenger monitoring cameras in the same electronics architecture.
Cost can be reduced by about 30%
According to the company, using the new electronics architecture, the cost of the safety system can be reduced by about 30% compared to the existing system. Its weight has also been claimed to be reduced by about 15%.
The use of lightweight systems can help control the overall weight of the vehicle, which can also impact fuel efficiency.
When will the new system be seen in Indian cars?
Suzuki is working on developing and tuning its ADAS technology to suit Indian roads and traffic conditions. In the future, this technology can be seen in some of the company's popular models and new generation compact cars.
If essential ADAS features reach the budget segment, entry-level and compact car buyers may also benefit from modern driving safety technology. However, detailed information about which models will be provided in which features and in which variants will be clear only after the upcoming announcements of the company.
