“Second Round”: Former India player mocks Pakistan after announcement of 2027 ODI World Cup schedule

Former India player Parthiv Patel trolled Pakistan after the ICC announced the schedule for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. There will be 12 teams in the main event, with six each in two groups.

India, Pakistan, Australia, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and Qualifier A are in Group A. On the other hand, Group B comprises Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Qualifier B.

The top three teams from each group will make it to the Super 7 stage of the tournament. The fourth-placed team across the two groups will take the seventh spot.

The teams will not carry any points from the group stage to the Super 7, with all the outfits competing in a round-robin format. Each team will compete in six matches in the second round from October 25 to November 14.

The top four teams from the Super 7 phase will book their places in the semifinals.

Parthiv was discussing the schedule when he poked fun at the Men in Green.

“Teams have different mindsets. India must be thinking about the semifinals. Pakistan must be thinking about the Super 7 stage. They must be happy with the schedule. They must be thinking of making it to the second round,” Parthiv Patel said on Star Sports.

Australia won the previous edition of the ICC tournament in 2023. The Men in Yellow defeated India by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Pakistan finished fifth in the standings.

India will take on the defending champions Australia in their campaign opener, scheduled to be played on October 7 before competing against Pakistan on October 10. South Africa will start the proceedings against New Zealand on October 9, while Zimbabwe have a game lined up against Qualifier A on the same day.
