Health Desk. Glaucoma is a serious eye disease in which the optic nerve can be damaged. If not identified and treated on time, vision can gradually be affected. The special thing is that many people do not feel any obvious symptoms in initial glaucoma. Therefore regular eye examination is considered necessary.
1. Decreased side vision
In glaucoma, initially the edge part of vision i.e. peripheral vision may be affected. The person may not be aware of it for a long time.
2. Blurred vision
Not seeing things clearly or experiencing frequent blurring can be a sign of getting your eyes checked. However, there can be many other reasons for blurred vision.
3. Seeing circles around light
Seeing colored circles or halos around bulbs or bright lights can also be a sign of eye problems. Instead of ignoring it, it is better to get it checked by a specialist.
4. Eye pain and redness
Some types of glaucoma can cause sudden eye problems like severe pain, redness and blurred vision. If such symptoms appear suddenly, medical help should be sought immediately.
5. Headache or eye pressure
Eye problems along with headache or feeling of pressure in the eyes can also indicate the need for examination. However, these symptoms alone do not confirm glaucoma.
Regular checkup is necessary
A detailed eye examination is necessary to detect glaucoma. The doctor may check your eye pressure, optic nerve, and visual field, among other tests. Especially people who are at high risk of glaucoma should get regular eye checkups done. Do not delay if there is a sudden change in eyesight or severe pain.
