Elon Musk has reignited his long-running rivalry with Meta after saying “Instagram is for girls” in a post on X, sparking fresh reactions online. The remark has once again put his views on Instagram and its audience under discussion, making the Elon Musk Instagram comment a trending topic.
What Did Elon Musk Say About Instagram?
Musk made the comment on October 1 while responding to a post by venture capitalist Geiger Capital. The post announced that the firm had “officially deleted Instagram” and described the platform as an “inherently female app.”
Musk replied simply, “Instagram is for girls.” His response quickly circulated on X, with thousands of users reacting to the post.
The Elon Musk Instagram comment is also not the first time he has used the phrase. In May, Musk made a similar remark while responding to a discussion about social-media habits. He also mocked men who send him links to their Instagram profiles.
Musk’s Rivalry With Meta
The latest Elon Musk Instagram comment comes against the backdrop of his broader rivalry with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
The competition gained another dimension in July 2023, when Meta launched Threads, a text-based social-media platform developed by the Instagram team. Meta introduced Threads as a platform for sharing text updates and joining public conversations.
Threads emerged as a potential competitor to X, formerly known as Twitter, which Musk had acquired in 2022. Reuters reported that Meta launched Threads as it sought to benefit from uncertainty surrounding Musk’s ownership of Twitter.
Musk and Zuckerberg also exchanged public jabs around the launch, adding to the attention surrounding the two platforms.
The latest Elon Musk Instagram comment has now revived conversations about Instagram, gender stereotypes and the continuing competition between X and Meta.
