New Delhi. Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has supported the campaign run by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) convener Abhijit Deepke demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. However, he made it clear that the issue of improving the electoral process should not be limited to any one person or organization. According to him, if a need is felt to reform the electoral system, then all concerned parties should make joint efforts.
What did Wangchuk say on the appeal to the opposition to stay away from the elections?
Abhijit Deepke had appealed to the opposition parties that if they suspect irregularities in the electoral process, then they should not participate in the elections until the system is improved. On this, Wangchuk said that the opposition parties should first use all their strength to improve the electoral process. He did not give direct advice to boycott the elections and said that participation in the elections should be taken after the process is fixed.
'Who will do it alone, everyone should come together'
When Wangchuk was asked whether Abhijit Deepke and his party could single-handedly force the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, he said that the question should be looked at from a different perspective. He said that if someone feels that something is wrong and has a moral basis on this issue, then everyone should come together and raise their voice. He stressed the need to focus more on the issue than the person leading the movement.
Jantar Mantar movement was also mentioned
Wangchuk's wife Gitanjali Angmo also raised the issue of lack of unity in the movement. Giving the example of the movement against NEET paper leak at Jantar Mantar, he said that even there there was not enough unity seen between different groups. Wangchuk said that sometimes people start paying more attention to who is leading the movement, whereas the real focus should be on the issue for which the movement is being carried out.
Support of the movement, but will not participate in Mumbai itself
Sonam Wangchuk has reiterated her support for CJP's electoral reform movement. He said that now many people and opposition parties are also active on this issue, so there is no need for him to personally join the movement. He says that at this time his priority is issues related to Ladakh.
CJP has announced to extend its agitation from Mumbai on October 2 and is demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar. At the same time, regarding this issue, opposition parties are also raising questions related to the electoral process and Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
