New Delhi, 2 October 2026: Russian President Vladimir Putin has openly praised the peaceful initiative taken by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to end the ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Speaking from the stage of 'Valdai Discussion Club' organized in Moscow, Putin had made it clear that, despite the very close relations between India and Russia, PM Modi has always insisted on ending the war and establishing peace. According to the Russian President, PM Modi has a keen interest in resolving this global crisis and he has excellent ideas to find a mediation path that is acceptable to both the countries. Putin added that India's stance on Ukraine is neutral, but its basic objective is to stop this bloodshed as soon as possible.
There was an in-depth discussion on the Ukraine issue during the high-level meeting held between PM Modi and President Putin in New Delhi in September. At that time the Indian Prime Minister had reiterated that a permanent solution to any problem is not possible through war but only through 'dialogue and diplomacy'. He assured India's active participation in every effort for world peace. Earlier in August, in a conversation with the Japanese media, PM Modi had described India's policy as 'principled and humanitarian'. Moreover, even after talks with US President Donald Trump, the Prime Minister had stressed on a peaceful settlement by reaching out to the Russian leadership.

Not only the Ukraine peace story, but the partnership between India and Russia in the fields of defence, energy, trade and space is also progressing rapidly. During his visit in September, President Putin had officially invited PM Modi to visit Moscow for the '24th India-Russia Annual Summit', which India has accepted. Today the entire world is taking note of India's growing diplomatic influence globally and its role as a peacemaker.
