Asian Games: The 13th day brought rain of medals for India in the Asian Games. Indian athletes proved their mettle in different sports and won many medals for the country. On the basis of this brilliant performance, India has won a total of 16 gold medals and has secured its place in the top-5 in the medal table. Today, a total of 6 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals came to India’s account. India is currently at fifth position in the medal tally.
The biggest and historic success of the day was achieved by the Indian women’s hockey team. In the final match, India won the gold medal by defeating China 1-0 after a tough fight. This victory is also very special because the Indian women’s hockey team has won the gold medal in the Asian Games after a long wait of 44 years. With this historic victory, the Indian team has also directly qualified for the Olympic Games to be held in Los Angeles, USA in 2028.
Sujit Kalkal won gold in men’s 65 kg freestyle.
In wrestling, India’s star wrestler Sujit Kalkal performed amazingly in the men’s 65 kg freestyle category. At one time Sujit was trailing 2-9 against the Tajikistan wrestler in the final match and his defeat was considered almost certain. But the Indian wrestler showed amazing courage and made three consecutive brilliant takedowns in the last moments and won the match 10-9 and won the gold medal.
Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen and Ankush got success in the boxing ring.
The dominance of Indian boxers was also seen in the boxing ring. In women’s boxing, Lovlina Borgohain (75 kg category) and Parveen (65 kg category) won gold medals for the country by defeating their opponents in their respective final matches. In the men’s 80 kg category, Ankush Pangal also showed his boxing prowess and won the gold medal.
India got historic gold in archery
Great news came for India from the field of archery also. In the final match of the recurve women’s team event, the trio of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti and Kumkum Mohod won the historic gold medal by defeating South Korea, one of the strongest teams in the world, in a thrilling match. During the day, India won two silvers in the men’s recurve team and mixed recurve team events of archery. Overall, India has so far won 76 medals in this Asian Games including 16 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze medals.
