U17 Four Nations Cup Preview: Germany vs. England

Germany and England U17 national teams will lock horns at the end of a friendly Four Nations Cup tournament in Duisburg.

Germany U17 will host their England counterpart in Duisburg on Sunday at the end of a friendly tournament between four national teams. Both teams won their first two games in the competition against Venezuela and Israel.

Michael Prus’ side started the home tournament with a 2-1 win over Venezuela. Linus Güther, who holds the record for the youngest player to feature for Union Berlin in Bundesliga at the age of 16 years and 3 months, scored the second goal two minutes after his assist to Henry Schönhoff’s opener.

On Thursday, Germany U17 recorded their second win of the friendly competition in Duisburg with a 3-2 victory over Israel. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Niko Ilicevic, who will turn 16 at the end of the month, won and scored a 90th-minute penalty-kick for the hosts.

Shevin-Heinz Matondo and substitute Milo Barde scored the first two goals for Germany with their first strikes at this level. With only a three-day gap between games, Prus will be expected to rotate his side once again.

12 goals were scored the last time these two teams met in September 2025. Marwan-Omir Mirza scored a hat-trick for Germany, but Ryan Kavuma-McQueen’s quartet helped England to a 7-5 victory at the same stadium this game will be played on Sunday.

Charles Herrmann, Max Moerstedt and Paris Brunner scored the goals for Germany U17 the last time they beat England in 2023. The latter two are now starring for the U20 and U21 national teams, respectively.

Current Germany internationals Finn Jeltsch and Assan Ouedraogo also started that game for the side coached by the current women’s national team boss Christian Wück at the time.

Prior to his appointment for the U17 in July, the 58-year-old Prus, who played for Schalke in Bundesliga during his playing career, has been working in several DFB coaching roles since 2007. Former Germany international Mike Hanke is the assistant coach.
