QR Code Scam: In today’s time, digital payment has become a very convenient medium. From buying goods at small shops to paying big bills, people are increasingly using UPI and QR codes. With the promotion of digital payments in the country, the flow of cash has reduced. But, in today’s digital era, the number of fraudsters is also increasing. Therefore, you need to be a little careful while making payment.
Cyber thugs take advantage of this facility and try to target people in different ways. Especially many misconceptions are seen among people regarding QR code. Let us know what things should be kept in mind while making digital payment.
1. Do not enter UPI PIN to withdraw money
Many times, people can be misled in cyber fraud by saying that to get money, scan the QR code and enter your UPI PIN. Whereas, you should always keep in mind that the PIN needs to be entered only while sending money. Generally, to take money from someone, you do not need to tell your UPI PIN to another person. Therefore avoid this mistake.
2. Check Unknown QR Code
If you are making payment somewhere, then avoid scanning any unknown QR code. One should avoid immediately scanning unknown QR codes received through social media posts or any messages and emails. Especially when you are being lured to get money, refund or any other benefit with QR code, then you have to be careful.
3. Do not install remote access apps
If someone pretending to be a bank employee, customer care agent or representative of a payment company asks you to install an app on your mobile, then be careful. Some remote-access or screen-sharing apps may allow another person to view or control your device’s screen. Therefore, in such a situation, a cyber criminal can take all your details.
