Nagoya: India's Pranavi Urs created history in the Asian Games. The 23-year-old golfer from Mysore won the gold medal in women's individual golf by maintaining a lead of one stroke in the last round. With this she became the first Indian female golfer to win a gold medal in the Asian Games. With this achievement of Pranavi, the Indian women's team also won the silver medal.
Pranavi shot an even-par 70 in the final round and finished at the top position with a total score of 15 under 265 in four rounds. China's Yin Ruoning won silver, while Singapore's Shannon Tan won bronze.
Made a series of birdies after a mistake on the third hole
Pranavi had a challenging start in the final round. Despite a triple bogey on the third hole, he made a brilliant comeback and made three birdies. Under pressure, he maintained his lead and won the historic gold medal.
After the win, Pranavi said that she would love to be the first player to achieve any feat. According to him, players will win in future too, but the player who achieves something for the first time will always be the first.
Indian women's golf team won silver
The Indian team of Olympians Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar along with Pranavi Urs won the silver medal in the women's team event. India shot a total of 14 under 546, while China won the gold medal with 22 under 538.
Aditi Ashok scored 67 in the final round. After a double bogey and a bogey, she made five consecutive birdies and finished tied 14th. Diksha Dagar finished tied 23rd in the final round with a score of 77.
India's best performance in golf since 1982
In the Asian Games, Indian male golfer Shiv Kapoor won the gold medal in the 2002 Busan Games. Laxman Singh had won the individual men's gold medal in the 1982 Delhi Asian Games. In that edition, India also won gold in the team event with Amit Luthra and Rajeev Mohta.
Pranavi Urs' individual gold and Indian women's team's silver medal is India's best performance in golf since the 1982 Delhi Asian Games.
