BJP made Dinesh Arya and Koel Mallik as Rajya Sabha candidates!

The Central Election Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party has announced the candidates for the Rajya Sabha biennial elections to be held in Uttarakhand and the Rajya Sabha by-election 2026 to be held in West Bengal. BJP has fielded Dinesh Arya from Uttarakhand and Rukmini Mallik (Koyal Mallik) from West Bengal.
Dinesh Arya has been the Vice Chairman (status Minister of State) of the State Level Drinking Water Monitoring Council in Uttarakhand, Public Relations Officer of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, former District President of Nainital of BJP and National Minister of Scheduled Front.

Whereas, Rukmini Mallik is an actress and politician, who is known professionally as Koyal Mallik or just Koyal. He is primarily known for his work in Bengali films. Rukmini Mallik has been a Rajya Sabha member from TMC.

Let us tell you that biennial elections will be held on 10 seats in Uttar Pradesh and 1 seat in Uttarakhand, while by-elections will be held on one seat in West Bengal. Voting on all these seats will be held on October 16. The tenure of 11 Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand is ending in November 2026. Because of this, elections are being held on these seats.

Apart from this, one seat has become vacant in West Bengal. Rukmini Mallick, Rajya Sabha MP from Trinamool Congress, had resigned from here on July 16. His tenure was till April 2, 2032. By-election will be held to fill this vacant seat.

According to the Election Commission, the last date for filing nominations is till October 6. Nomination papers will be scrutinized on 7th October and candidates will be able to withdraw their names till Friday 9th October. Voting will take place on October 16. Voting time will be from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes will start at 5 pm on the same day. The entire election process will be completed by October 19.

The Election Commission has also given a special rule for this election. For casting vote, only integrated violet colored sketch pen can be used to indicate the choice on the ballot paper. This pen will be given by the Returning Officer.

Voting cannot be done with any other pen. The Commission has said that to make the elections free and fair, observers will be appointed and the election process will be closely monitored.
