Concern about Pneumonic Plague has increased after the death of a lab technician in Siberia, Russia. According to reports, the health of 28-year-old Darya Shipilova, who worked at the Anti-Plague Institute in Irkutsk, suddenly deteriorated and she died after suffering severe pneumonia-like symptoms. It was told that while working in the lab, a test tube was broken and the woman was suspected to have come in contact with infected bacteria. However, his death was due to Pneumonic Plague, it has not been officially confirmed yet. After the incident, about 200 people who came in contact with him were kept under surveillance.
After this incident, Pneumonic Plague has once again come into discussion. This is a disease caused by a bacteria called Yersinia pestis, which infects the lungs. It can also reach other people through particles released from the cough or breath of an infected person. Its outbreak has also come to light in India. In the year 2002, 16 cases of Pneumonic Plague were found in Hatkoti village of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, in which 4 people died. During investigation, the presence of Yersinia pestis bacteria was confirmed in these patients.
