SEBI notice verification: Cyber crooks are now sending bogus show-cause notices or recovery letters by stealing the capital market regulator ‘SEBI’ (SEBI) logo and the correct outward number to target stock market investors. But now this trick of cyber thugs will not work. SEBI has implemented its new and upgraded system ‘Document Number Verification System’ (DNVS) for notice verification. Do not blindly trust any unknown call or letter in the name of SEBI. Just spend 1 minute on the portal to check its correctness.
Earlier, the document could be verified only by entering the ‘Outward Number’ on SEBI’s portal. Cyber crooks used to take advantage of this flaw and paste the genuine number on the fake content. SEBI has completely upgraded its DNVS system to eliminate this trick of fraudsters.
Now in the new system these 5 details will be checked:
The new system leaves no room for malpractice. If you receive any physical letter or notice in the name of SEBI, you can verify it by visiting the official website of SEBI and entering the following details:
-
Outward Number
-
Name of the SEBI officer issuing the letter (Issuing Officer Name)
-
Date of issue of the letter
-
Subject Matter of the Letter
-
Your Recipient Name
If ‘No Record Found’ appears, confirm by e-mail
If ‘No Record Found’ appears on the screen after entering these details, then understand that there is something black in the dal or the notice is fake. In such doubtful case you can directly confirm with SEBI through e-mail. Besides, verification of old letters issued before September 2026 will also have to be done through e-mail only.
Project Aware: New Rule for Stock Brokers
Along with this, SEBI has made a new arrangement for stock brokers under ‘Project Jagruk’ to increase awareness among investors. Under which the brokers have to display investor awareness related messages on their website and trading app. A circular was issued in this regard on 1 October 2026.
This rule will be implemented in a phased manner:
It will be mandatory for all stock brokers to display ‘Investor Awareness Message’ and ‘Risk Disclosure’ issued by SEBI on their website. During this period it will be optional (optional) to display this message on the trading app.
