IndiGo, India’s largest airline, announced on Monday an increase in fuel surcharges on domestic and international flights amid soaring aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.

The new charges will apply to bookings made from October 6, 2026, as global crude oil prices remain volatile due to ongoing geopolitical tensions.

The airline highlighted that ATF costs have risen steadily, with the latest month-on-month increase surpassing 14%, reaching levels among the highest seen in a decade.

IndiGo stated, “The continuous rise in the fuel prices, with the latest month-on-month increase exceeding 14 per cent, has taken ATF costs to levels that are amongst the highest in the last decade. Given that Aviation Turbine Fuel makes up a significant share of airline’s operating costs, this rise is expected to impact airlines’ cost structures and network economics, including those of IndiGo.”

For domestic travel, a fuel surcharge of Rs 375 will apply for flights up to 500 km, Rs 600 for 501-1,000 km, Rs 900 for 1,001-1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for 1,501-2,000 km, and Rs 1,300 for distances above 2,000 km.

flights within the SAARC region will incur a surcharge of Rs 1,000 for routes up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 beyond that.

Destinations in Southeast Asia, the GCC, the Middle East, and North and East Asia will have a surcharge of Rs 5,500, while flights to Africa and Europe will see a charge of Rs 6,000.

IndiGo emphasised that despite the sharp rise in fuel prices, the airline has chosen a modest adjustment in charges to minimise the impact on passengers.
