Major action by Customs at Delhi IGI Airport, precious stones and jewelery worth ₹3.04 crore seized

Taking major action, the Customs Department at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) has recovered precious stones and jewelery worth Rs 3.04 crore from a passenger. The accused passenger had reached Delhi from Bangkok. Customs officials stopped him on the basis of spot profiling and after questioning also searched the premises associated with him.

The traveler came to Delhi from Bangkok

According to the Customs Department, the passenger had reached Delhi via flight from Bangkok on October 2. The next day i.e. on October 3, during checking at Terminal-3 of IGI Airport, he was stopped on the basis of suspicious activities. During interrogation, the passenger admitted that he had come to Delhi with precious stones and jewelery from Bangkok.

3,200 pieces of precious stones and jewelery recovered

During a search of the passenger's luggage and personal possessions, customs officials found 3,200 pieces of precious stones and jewellery. Their estimated price is said to be around Rs 1.01 crore. During interrogation, the passenger admitted to bringing these goods from Bangkok to India.

More than 196 kg of raw pages found from the hideout

In further investigation of the case, the customs officials also raided a premises linked to the passenger. 196.676 kg of black-green colored rough emeralds were recovered from here. Apart from this, 221 carat cut-polished ruby ​​and 45 carat cut-polished emeralds were also found during the search. The value of these recovered items has been estimated to be around Rs 2.02 crore.

Passenger arrested under Custom Act

The Customs Department has seized the goods recovered from the airport and related locations. The total value of the recovery is said to be around Rs 3.04 crore. The accused passenger has been arrested under Section 104 of the Customs Act. Further investigation is ongoing in the matter.
