Imran : Protests have intensified demanding the release of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. His party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has started a long march from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa towards Islamabad. This step was taken after talks between the government and PTI failed to reach any agreement. Authorities have tightened security and set up barricades on major roads to prevent protesters from entering the capital.
Consensus was not reached even after two rounds of talks
Two rounds of talks were held between the government and PTI leaders, but no consensus could be reached on access to Imran Khan, his treatment and other issues related to the protest. After this, PTI started marching towards Islamabad from Lakki Marwat of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to reports, thousands of supporters have joined the march in the initial phase. The party has also alleged arrests of its workers, while the government has stepped up security in the capital and warned protesters not to enter.

Shahbaz Sharif government increased security
PTI had earlier announced to take out this march on September 27, but it was postponed to October 4 amid increased security by the government and blockades imposed on the roads. Now as the march progresses, containers have been placed on several major routes in Islamabad. There are also reports of section 144 being imposed in the capital. The demands of PTI leaders include permission to meet Imran Khan and permission to undergo health checkup from his personal doctor. Plans have been made to join supporters from different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the march. The party convoy is moving towards Islamabad passing through several stops. At present it is not clear whether the protesters will be able to enter the capital or the security forces will stop them on their way.
