New Delhi. Amidst the ongoing protests against SIR at Jantar Mantar, Delhi Police has taken steps towards strengthening the security arrangements and increasing transparency in police action. Body cameras have been provided to the policemen deployed at the protest site. Senior officers will also be seen wearing body cameras while taking stock of the security arrangements. The aim of the police is to record the important activities taking place during the protest as well as the conversations between the policemen and the protesters, so that in case of any dispute or incident, clear information about the developments can be available.
Police activities will be monitored during the demonstration
Jantar Manta the activities of the policemen deployed at the spot will be recorded through body cameras. Senior officers handling the security arrangements have also been included in this system. Through recording, the incidents that happened during the demonstration can be assessed later also. This is expected to help the police in understanding the developments in case of any dispute.
Increased vigilance after allegations by women journalists
This arrangement has been made at a time when during the recent protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, three women journalists had accused policemen of sexual harassment and misconduct. A woman journalist had alleged that Assistant Police Commissioner (ACP) Vivek Bhagat assaulted her during the protest. After these allegations, questions were raised about the action and role of the police.

Recording will be useful in investigating the allegations
According to sources, footage recorded from body cameras can become important evidence in the event of any incident.
