Jaishankar arrives in Ghana on three-nation Africa tour

Accra: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar arrived in Ghana Tuesday on the first leg of his three-nation tour to African countries to explore ways to shore up bilateral ties in trade and investment, and infrastructure development.

“Delighted to arrive in Accra, Ghana today. Appreciate the warm welcome by FM @S_OkudzetoAblak. Look forward to productive engagements to advance our Comprehensive Partnership,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.

Ghana’s Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa welcomed the external affairs minister. He described Jaishankar as a “great friend of Ghana” and said he was “looking forward to our positive engagements and impactful deals.”

“Dr Jaishankar is here on a 2-day official visit at my invitation. Ghana and India are now high grade strategic partners with our bilateral relations having been elevated to Comprehensive Partnership last year during the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said in a post on X.

From Ghana, Jaishankar will travel to Cote d'Ivoire and Ethiopia.

His visit is reflective of India’s commitment to deepen its partnership with Africa, and will further New Delhi’s solidarity with the Global South, the Ministry of External Affairs said in Delhi while announcing the trip.

During his visit, Jaishankar will hold bilateral talks with his counterparts and meet with the leadership of all three nations to review close bilateral ties of friendship and cooperation. He will also exchange perspectives on regional and global matters of mutual interest.

In Addis Ababa, Jaishankar will chair the Regional Heads of Mission (HoMs) Conference that is expected to be attended by Indian envoys in the region.
