Health Desk. Persistent pain or swelling in bones is not always a normal problem. In some cases, these can be signs of other serious diseases including bone cancer. Although cancer cannot be detected on the basis of these symptoms alone, medical examination is necessary if the problem persists for a long time.
1. Persistent bone pain
In bone cancer, there may be pain in the affected area. This pain may be mild in the beginning but may increase with time. If pain persists despite rest or bothers you more at night, it should not be ignored.
2. Swelling or lump around the bone
Sudden swelling, bulge or lump appearing near any bone can also be a reason for investigation. Especially if it is accompanied by pain or changes in the surrounding skin.
3. Bone fracture without major injury
Sometimes due to weakening of the bone, fracture can occur even during minor injury or normal activity. In such a situation, it is important to get checked by a doctor, because there can be many reasons behind it.
4. Difficulty in walking
If there is difficulty in moving the hands and legs due to continuous pain, stiffness or swelling around the bone or joint, then it is not right to consider it as a normal pain and avoid it for a long time.
5. Constant fatigue and weight loss
Common symptoms like unexplained weight loss, weakness or constant fatigue can also appear in some serious diseases. If these problems are accompanied by persistent bone related problems, it is better to seek medical advice.
Not every pain is cancer
There can be many other reasons for pain, swelling or weakness in bones. Therefore, there is no need to panic after seeing these symptoms. If pain or swelling is persistent, increasing, or appears without apparent cause, the doctor may recommend X-rays, scans, or other tests if needed after examination.
