Police further said that every vacant lane provides way for ambulances and rescue vehicles to move faster. Please avoid this area if possible. Do not stop, park or congregate near the incident site, and follow the instructions of traffic personnel.

The incident comes a month after the collapse of a multi-storey building housing a paying guest accommodation in the Satya Niketan area of the national capital in which seven people, including five students, lost their lives.

Following the tragedy, the Supreme Court had directed authorities across the country to file affidavits on the steps taken to comply with its earlier directions on unauthorized constructions.

Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah and R. Mahadevan’s bench, accepting the suggestion of amicus curiae Ajit Kumar Sinha, directed the authorities to submit a report before the Supreme Court on the action taken as per its earlier orders.

A bench headed by Justice Amanullah was informed that the Delhi High Court, while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) related to the Satya Niketan incident, had on September 7 directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to submit the report and scheduled the next hearing of the case on September 25.

The amicus curiae submitted that the High Court proceedings may continue, while the authorities should also submit a report before the Supreme Court incorporating the issues raised in the present proceedings.

The Amicus Curiae further stated that inspections have already been conducted in the areas covered under the earlier directions of the Supreme Court in Delhi and Lucknow (Lajpat Nagar, Malviya Nagar, Saket and Sarojini Nagar in Delhi and Aliganj in Lucknow).

The Supreme Court was also told that the issues relating to the collapse of Satya Niketan have already been included in the action being taken and reports to be submitted by the authorities in the ongoing proceedings. Accepting the suggestion, the bench said that it would not make any change in the status of the case currently pending in the High Court, and the case would continue. The Supreme Court said that the High Court is requested to monitor the case from time to time (Public Interest Litigation).
