A tragic building collapse in Delhi’s Seemapuri area claimed the lives of three people, including a pregnant woman and two children, while eight others were rescued from the debris and rushed to hospital on Wednesday.
The four-storey residential structure collapsed in northeast Delhi, triggering a massive rescue operation involving the Delhi Fire Service, police personnel, and disaster response teams. Emergency services received information about the incident around 3:30 PM and immediately launched search-and-rescue efforts.
According to officials, those killed included a 21-year-old pregnant woman identified as Gulafsa, a young girl, and another child. Several injured victims were shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital for treatment.
Rescue workers used heavy equipment and manual efforts to clear the rubble amid fears that more people could be trapped beneath the debris. Local residents also joined the operation as anxious family members gathered near the site.
Preliminary reports suggested the building may have developed structural cracks following recent tremors felt across Delhi-NCR. However, authorities said the exact cause of the collapse would be determined after a detailed investigation.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the structural safety of residential buildings in densely populated urban localities. Authorities have assured a thorough probe into the collapse and any possible lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy.
