London, Oct 8:
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a new contract that will keep him at the English club until 2030, extending his stay beyond a decade and strengthening the Spaniard’s long-term role at the Premier League champions.
Arteta, 44, took charge of Arsenal in December 2019 and has now become the longest-serving manager in the Premier League. His new deal comes after he guided Arsenal to the Premier League title last season, ending the club’s 22-year wait to become champions of England again.
Arteta said the club and its supporters had already created special memories together but stressed that he believed the best was still to come. He described the contract extension as an opportunity to continue building on the progress made during his tenure.
Arsenal co-chairmen Stan Kroenke and Josh Kroenke also expressed their support for Arteta, saying he understood the club’s values and carried them with him. They said he was committed to building on the achievements of recent seasons.
Arteta joined Arsenal after working on Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff at Manchester City. He had also played for Arsenal, spending the final five years of his playing career at the club. He won the FA Cup in his first season as manager and gradually rebuilt Arsenal into a title-winning side.
The new agreement provides Arteta with an opportunity to oversee Arsenal’s next stage after ending the club’s long wait for a Premier League crown. His extended tenure also gives the club continuity as it seeks to remain among the leading teams in English and European football.
