Technology Desk: Imagine, your laptop does not just wait for your orders, but itself understands what work you have to do and completes it. Whether it's organizing files, writing code, changing settings, or handling background tasks, Windows PCs will soon be able to do it all themselves.
In Microsoft's recent big event, the company showed a glimpse of this future. The most talked about event was the Surface Laptop Ultra with 128GB RAM. With this, Microsoft has made many big announcements related to AI Agents, Hybrid Intelligence and new security features.
Surface Laptop Ultra with 128GB RAM became the hero of the event
Microsoft has introduced its powerful Surface Laptop Ultra. It uses NVIDIA's RTX Spark platform and can be configured with up to 128GB of RAM.
According to the company, this machine has been designed for tasks like heavy AI models, 3D rendering and 8K video editing. The special thing is that the laptop can run AI models with up to 120 billion parameters locally, i.e. without internet. The laptop has a 15-inch touchscreen and a new cooling system, which will help in controlling the temperature during long high-performance work.
You will be shocked to hear the price!
Now let's talk about the price, which makes this powerful machine special. The starting price of Surface Laptop Ultra has been said to be $2,599 i.e. around Rs 2.51 lakh. Whereas the top-end model, which has a 20-core processor, 128GB RAM and 1TB storage, its price goes up to $5,899 i.e. around Rs 5.70 lakh. According to the company, its shipping will start from October 16.
Claimed to be faster than MacBook Pro
Microsoft has made big claims about the Surface Laptop Ultra based on its testing results. According to the company, it is 4.3 times faster than MacBook Pro 16-inch (M5 Pro) in AI image generation. Whereas in AI video generation, its speed is said to be up to 6.2 times higher. However, these are the company's own test figures and actual performance will depend on the model, software and workload being used.
Microsoft's focus is not just on making more powerful hardware. The company is moving towards making Windows a platform for AI Agents. AI Agents will work like digital assistants who can do work for you instead of just answering questions. For example, organizing files, performing coding tasks or handling other tasks in the background.
Now your PC will work on its own, what are AI Agents?
Synergy of local AI and cloud through Hybrid Intelligence
Microsoft has also introduced the concept of Hybrid Intelligence. This means that Windows will be able to decide whether it is better to complete a task with the chip and local AI model inside the PC or send it to the cloud. This will provide an option to keep sensitive data on the local device and use the power of the cloud as per the need.
Security is also important for AI Agents
When AI agents get access to computer files and systems, security will also be a big challenge. Microsoft has introduced Microsoft Execution Containers (MXC) for this.
Its purpose is to run AI agents in a limited and controlled environment. That means the Agent will get access only to those files, resources and networks which have been given permission. OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot and Meta's Muse app have been introduced as support for this security feature.
GitHub Copilot will now understand PC files too
For developers, Microsoft has also taken steps towards making AI more useful with local PC data. GitHub Copilot will now be able to use local AI models. With the help of HydraFusion technology, Copilot will be able to understand the context of the PC's files, recent activities and documents when permission is granted.
This means that in the coming time, Copilot will not just be a tool for writing code, but will be able to do more work by understanding your development environment.
RTX Spark Dev Box for developers
Microsoft has also introduced the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box for developers working on AI apps and large AI models. This system can be used for testing and development of large AI models without internet. For larger companies, Microsoft has also announced DGX Station for Windows, which features NVIDIA's GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra Desktop Superchip. According to the company, this system will be capable of running AI models with more than 1 trillion parameters.
Windows Search also becomes smart
Microsoft has also made AI-based changes to Search to make everyday use of Windows easier.
Now the user can type commands directly in Windows Search, like:
“Switch to dark mode”
“Turn on Do Not Disturb”
“Dim my screen”
After this Windows will be able to change the related settings itself. This means the need to open different menus again and again for small settings will be reduced.
Big update for gamers also
Microsoft's new RTX Spark based AI PCs won't be limited to just AI tasks. The company has also mentioned support for gaming technologies like DirectX Ray Tracing and DirectStorage. Additionally, Microsoft has announced that the Call of Duty game will be coming to RTX Spark devices in 2027.
Microsoft's clear signal – PC will no longer be just a computer
This event of Microsoft makes the future strategy of the company quite clear. The focus is not just on more RAM, faster processor or better graphics, but on creating such AI PCs that can work on their own by understanding the needs of the user.
