Pillay (Navi Pillay Nobel Peace Prize), born in a family of Indian Tamil origin in Durban, South Africa, had provided legal assistance to many activists including Nelson Mandela during the struggle against apartheid. Pillai created history by starting law practice in Natal province in 1967. She later became the first black female judge appointed to the High Court of South Africa. In 1995, he was appointed a judge on the international tribunal hearing cases related to the Rwandan genocide.
He chaired it from 1999 to 2003. After this she became a judge of the International Criminal Court. From 2008 to 2014, Navi Pillay (Navi Pillay Nobel Peace Prize) was the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.
