BJP's historic victory in Nandigram, Hasirani Rath won by 1.22 lakh votes

Nandigram Election Result: In the results of by-elections held on six seats in four states, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won Nandigram and Rejinagar seats in West Bengal. In Nandigram, BJP candidate Hasirani Rath won by a margin of 1,22,753 votes. Vijay’s party TVK in Tamil Nadu won both Dharapuram and Madurantakam seats. Thattanchavadi seat in Puducherry went to AINRC, while BJP’s Devashish Sharma emerged victorious from Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam.

Record victory of Hasirani Rath in Nandigram

BJP candidate Hasirani Rath won the Nandigram assembly seat of West Bengal by a huge margin of 1,22,753 votes. He got a total of 1,64,427 votes. Congress candidate Milan Pradhan got 41,674 votes. This victory is said to be the biggest victory margin since Nandigram seat came into existence in 1967. Earlier in 2016, Shubhendu Adhikari, contesting on TMC ticket, had defeated CPI’s Abdul Kabir Shaikh by 81,230 votes. The victory of Hasirani Rath left this old record behind.

BJP registered victory in Rejinagar also

BJP candidate Sakharao Sarkar also won the Rejinagar assembly seat of West Bengal. With BJP’s success on this seat, both the by-election assembly seats of the state went to the party’s account.

TVK won both seats in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu’s Dharapuram and Madurantakam assembly seats were won by Chief Minister Vijay-led Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). In Dharapuram seat, TVK candidate P. Satyabhama secured 66,841 votes and DMK candidate S. Defeated Suganya by 9,471 votes. Suganya got 57,370 votes, while AIADMK candidate K. Banumathi stood third with 45,280 votes. TVK candidate from Madurantakam seat. Maragatham Kumaravel also won. In this way the party won both the seats in the by-elections.

Ashok Anand of AINRC victorious in Puducherry

The ruling All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) candidate Ashok Anand won. He defeated his nearest rival Congress candidate E. Vinayagam by 8,482 votes. DMK candidate K. Setu stood third. This victory was an important result in the by-elections for the government that took power in Puducherry a few months ago.

BJP captures Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha seat

BJP candidate Devashish Sharma won the Nagaon Lok Sabha seat of Assam. He defeated AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal by 1,10,629 votes. Sharma got 4,20,705 votes, while Ajmal got 3,10,076 votes. Congress candidate Shibamoni Bora stood third with 75,908 votes.

Voting took place on 6 October

Voting on these six seats was held on 6 October and counting of votes took place on 9 October. In the by-election results, BJP won in West Bengal, TVK in Tamil Nadu and AINRC in Puducherry, while Nagaon Lok Sabha seat in Assam also went to BJP’s account.
