Stone Blocks are an important building material in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. They let you move beyond basic wooden shelters and build stronger, more detailed structures, including castle-style walls, foundations, stairs, roofs, and other advanced pieces. If you want to create a base, you will eventually need a steady supply of them.
The recipe itself is simple: you need two Stone to make one Stone Block. The main challenge is unlocking and building the Stonecutter, the station required to process the material.
How to Unlock the Stonecutter
The Stonecutter becomes available after you discover Oak Logs and a Steel Bar. You cannot make Stone Blocks directly from your inventory, so focus on gathering the materials for this station first.
To build one Stonecutter, collect:
- 18 Oak Logs
- 4 Steel Bars
- 8 Fine Thread
- 1 Vault Core
Once you have everything, use Build Mode to place the Stonecutter at your base. It is worth setting it up near your storage and building area, because Stone Blocks are heavy and you may need many of them for a major construction project.
How to Get the Required Materials
Oak Logs are obtained by chopping oak trees. Bring an axe and gather extra logs if you also need wood for other crafting stations or building pieces.
Steel Bars take more preparation. You need to process the required metal materials using the appropriate smelting setup. The Blast Furnace uses Iron, Coal, and Fuel Pellets to produce Steel Bars, so make sure you have the resources and equipment needed for that step before planning your Stonecutter.
Fine Thread is made from Corpse Cotton at a Spinning Wheel. Each Fine Thread requires four Corpse Cotton, which means the eight threads for the Stonecutter require 32 Corpse Cotton in total. You can collect Corpse Cotton in Fellhollow, including from plants in the region, and some enemies may drop it as well.
The final ingredient is a Vault Core. Look for these inside dragonkin vaults, where they can be found on plinths. Explore carefully and bring suitable gear before entering dangerous areas. If you have already visited vaults, check your stored materials before making another trip.
Where to Find Stone
Stone is easier to gather than the Stonecutter’s other ingredients. Search across Ashenfall for large Stone Boulders, which can be mined with any pickaxe. Each boulder usually provides around 10 to 16 Stone, making them a reliable source when you need a large amount.
How to Craft Stone Blocks
After placing your Stonecutter, the process is straightforward:
- Collect raw Stone from boulders or other sources.
- Return to your base and access the Stonecutter.
- Add Stone to the station.
- Craft the Stone Blocks and collect the finished material.
Every craft uses two Stone and produces one Stone Block. For example, 20 Stone will make 10 Stone Blocks, while a full stack of 99 Stone Blocks requires 198 Stone. Remember that Stone Blocks weigh more than raw Stone, so avoid carrying a huge batch across the map if you can process it closer to your building site.
Best Tips for Gathering and Crafting
Plan your building project before processing all your Stone. Some structures need only a few blocks, while castle walls and foundations can consume a large amount. Check the material cost in Build Mode before you begin.
Keep the Stonecutter close to your storage, and gather raw Stone in batches. This reduces repeated travel and makes it easier to manage your inventory. You should also keep enough Steel Bars and Fine Thread for other crafting needs instead of spending every resource on one station.
