New Delhi. The attack on flydubai's Indian pilot Captain Smit Machar will be investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Following the order of the Central Government, NIA has registered an FIR. NIA has registered a case under Section 3 of the Anti-Hijacking Act-2016, Section 15(1)(a) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Section 16 of the UPPA. On September 30, Captain Smit Machar, the pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 going from Dubai to Tel Aviv, was seriously injured by an ax attack by Omani-origin co-pilot Hamam Al-Hamami.

The co-pilot of Omani origin, Hamam al-Hamami, was inspired by terrorist ideology and wanted to crash the plane. His intention was to repeat an incident like the 9/11 terrorist attacks. For this reason, to take control of the plane, he hit pilot Smit several times on the head with an ax which was kept in the cockpit for emergency use. During that time the plane suddenly started descending rapidly. Then Captain Smit, without fearing for his own life, somehow gathered courage in his injured condition and opened the cockpit door. After this some passengers reached the cockpit and controlled the Omani co-pilot. A dentist present in the flight provided first aid to Pilot Smit. After this the emergency landing of the plane was made in Saudi Arabia.

At present Captain Smit is admitted in UAE hospital. He has undergone a skull operation, although now he is better than before. Captain Smit's bravery is being praised all over the world. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced to honor Captain Smit with the 'Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism', Israel's highest civilian bravery award. While making a video call with PM Narendra Modi, Captain Smit had told that at the time of the incident he was reciting Hanuman Chalisa and that had given him courage.
