Chennai, 11 October 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Poonamallee-Vadapalani section built at an estimated cost of Rs 4,900 crore under Chennai Metro Phase-2. During the inauguration ceremony, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Along with Joseph Vijay, Prime Minister Modi also traveled in the metro from Porur bypass station to Poonamallee bypass station.
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of development works worth more than Rs 13,000 crore in areas like metro rail, highways, railways, ports, petroleum and education in Tamil Nadu.
3,700 crore highway…
Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone of major national highway projects worth approximately Rs 3,700 crore. These projects will strengthen road connectivity in the state, reduce travel time, ease traffic problems and accelerate economic development.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the 36 km long, four-lane Vadugapatti-Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744. This project will improve connectivity with the major pilgrimage sites as well as industrial and commercial centers of the region, which will ease the movement of people and goods.
Inauguration of Madurai Ring Road section
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated the 30-km-long, four-lane Madurai Ring Road section of NH-744A. According to a press release, the project will improve vehicular traffic around Madurai and help reduce traffic problems within the city.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the four-lane Thiruvarur Bypass on the Nagapattinam-Thanjavur section of NH-83. The project will strengthen road connectivity in Thiruvarur and ease transportation by providing alternative routes around the city.
Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated railway infrastructure projects worth more than Rs 750 crore. PM dedicates Karaikal-Peralam railway line to the nation; This will strengthen the rail connectivity system in this area.
He also dedicated to the nation three railway flyovers in Coimbatore and its surrounding areas. This will reduce traffic congestion at busy level crossings, reduce waiting time and improve road safety for passengers.
- Railway Projects – 5 redeveloped AMRUT stations (Palani, Vellore Cantt., Ambasamudram, Paramakudi, Namakkal) inaugurated.
- Inaugurated Chennai Port storage yard, four EXIM warehouses, advanced cruise terminal and Seafarers Club.
- V.O. Chidambaranar and Kamarajar Bandar: Inaugurated 8 development projects and Coal Berth-3, and laid the foundation stone for 'Capital Dredging' at Kamarajar Bandar.
- CPCL Refinery – Foundation stone of ₹1,620 crore Lube Oil Base Stocks (LOBS) Project laid.
- IIT Madras-Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Center (SGBC) launches global 3D brain mapping mission and 'C-STROKE' stroke atlas.
