AUS vs BAN, 2nd ODI: Australia cruises to series win despite Mostary century

Sobhana Mostary’s maiden ODI century went in vain as Australia completed a series victory against Bangladesh with a nine-wicket win at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane on Sunday.

Mostary became only the eight visiting batter to score a century against the Aussies, notching her ton from 123 deliveries.

The 24-year-old’s knock helped Bangladesh recover from early trouble as Kim Garth and Megan Schutt ran through the top three to reduce the visitor to 8 for three inside the PowerPlay.

Along with captain Nigar Sultana Joty (who scored an unbeaten 74 from 114 balls), Mostary added 195 from 243 balls as Bangladesh reached 220 for six at the end of its 50 overs. Their partnership was the highest for any wicket for Bangladesh in Women’s ODIs.

Schutt was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of four for 36 from her 10 overs.

However, , Georgia Voll’s 131 from 97 balls, her highest ODI score, allayed any fears of an upset for the host. The total was made to look paltry by a rapid opening stand between Voll and Phoebe Litchfield, who crashed 162 from 120 balls together as Australia got itself well ahead of the asking rate from the outset.

Litchfield eventually fell for 70 from 51 balls, but Ellyse Perry joined Voll at the crease and ensured that there were no hiccups as Australia got over the line with 131 balls to spare.

The final ODI is on Wednesday, October 14.
