Kia has showcased the all-new Seltos Hybrid at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, giving the world a closer look at the hybrid version of its popular SUV. The company has confirmed that the second-generation Seltos Hybrid will expand its electrified portfolio, while the India launch is expected in 2027.
The Seltos Hybrid made its European debut at the motor show, which runs from October 12 to 18. Kia describes it as an important addition to its SUV range, combining the new Seltos’ rugged design with a more efficient powertrain. The company has also revealed that the hybrid gets an electronic all-wheel-drive system, a first for a Kia hybrid model.
While the Paris showcase gives us a look at the global model, the specifications of the India-spec Seltos Hybrid could be different. Kia has not yet announced its Indian launch date, price or final powertrain details.
The version showcased internationally uses a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The petrol engine develops 102 Bhp and 141 Nm, while the electric motor is rated at 129 Bhp and 388 Nm. The combined system output is reported at 178 Bhp.
Power is sent through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The showcased model also gets an electronic all-wheel-drive system, which can distribute torque to improve traction and stability. Kia says the hybrid can also drive on electric power alone under suitable conditions.
The international model has a claimed fuel efficiency figure of 14.71 Kmpl under the WLTP testing cycle. This figure should not be directly compared with Indian ARAI-certified mileage figures, and the final efficiency of the India-spec model remains unconfirmed.
For India, the Seltos Hybrid is expected to use a locally adapted setup. Reports have suggested that Kia could pair the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a strong-hybrid system instead of bringing the international 1.6-litre setup unchanged. This remains an expectation, not an official specification.
Kia has previously indicated that it wants to introduce hybrid powertrains in key Indian models. Localisation will be important for the Seltos Hybrid, as the cost of importing major components such as the battery, electric motor, inverter and control systems could push prices up in this highly competitive segment.
The Seltos Hybrid is expected to join the Indian line-up in 2027, although Kia has not confirmed a specific date. The company is also working towards expanding its locally produced hybrid portfolio, with the Seltos among the models planned for this strategy.
The hybrid will sit alongside the existing petrol and diesel versions rather than replace them. It should appeal to buyers who want better fuel efficiency in city traffic without having to switch to a fully electric SUV.
Once launched, the Kia Seltos Hybrid could take on strong-hybrid SUVs such as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Its success will depend on real-world fuel economy, equipment levels and, most importantly, pricing.
Kia has not announced the India-spec Seltos Hybrid’s price yet. Local production of hybrid components could help the company keep costs competitive, but the final positioning will become clear closer to launch.
