Team India head into the 4th T20I on Wednesday in Hyderabad, knowing that a win will secure the series against West Indies. The Men in Blue finally saw their bowling come good as they held their nerves to win the game in Indore by 14 runs and take a 2-1 lead in the series. Young Indian batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is yet to get a chance in the current series.
Abhishek Nayar, who closely worked with Gautam Gambhir in 2024 before being let go in 2025, said he wants to see the youngster play. Nayar, in his chat on Star Sports, said the 15-year-old should be given a chance to play in Bengaluru if India can win the 4th T20I in Hyderabad and seal the series.
The 43-year-old opined, “I would want India to go 3-1 up in the series, and Vaibhav plays in the last game. Wrap up the series and let him play the last game.” The final game of the IND vs WI T20I series will be played on Saturday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have taken turns to perform well in the current series. Samson scored 82 off 41 balls in the second game, while Abhishek scored a fifty last Sunday to help the side get off to a good start and eventually post 223 on the board.
Former India star praises Abhishek Sharma’s batting
In his chat with Star Sports, Nayar praised Abhishek Sharma, calling his battle against Roston Chase the turning point of the game on Sunday. “Roston Chase was challenging the Indian batter and wanted to go after the reputation that Abhishek has.”
He also added, “There are battles inside a battle, and when Abhishek got set after taking time, Chase wanted to pre-empt what the batter may do next, because he had shown him all his variations with the ball as an off-spinner. This is what makes the Indian batter special because he starts attacking the bowlers from ball one, and also puts pressure on bowlers by taking his time.”
The southpaw scored 69 runs off 30 balls with six boundaries and five sixes. During the course of his knock, the Punjab–based star also went past the 2000-run mark in T20I cricket in just his 65th game. He will be looking to play in the Hyderabad stadium that the batter is familiar with and has a good record at, thanks to his IPL exploits.
