SNL alum Ego Nwodim on Shane Gillis’ controversial joke
Ego Nwodim responded to Shane Gillis’ remarks about women’s gym clothing by sharing a series of sarcastic posts on Instagram.
The former cast member shared two Instagram Stories on Monday that appeared to reference the comedian’s remarks about women’s gym attire. Taking to social media, Nwodim shared a gym selfie with the caption, “Whore reporting for duty.” She followed it with a picture of her post-workout meal, writing, “Getting my 30 grams of protein after heauxing.”
The comedian’s posts followed Gillis’ hosting appearance on Saturday Night Live on October 10, during which he made jokes about women wearing revealing workout clothes. His monologue included the remark, “I haven’t been to the gym in so long, I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?”
He discussed the shorts worn by some women at the gym, describing their appearance and joking that people exercising nearby might end up in TikTok videos. “And don’t look, you’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now,” Gillis said.
Nwodim was not the only entertainment figure to address the remarks. Dan Levy, the Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star, also criticized the language used to describe women based on their gym attire. “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores. It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There’s a difference there,” Levy said on Instagram.
Nwodim joined Saturday Night Live in 2018 and remained on the NBC sketch comedy series for seven seasons before leaving ahead of Season 51 in 2025.
