Sweet Shop New Rule: New rule will be applicable on sweet shops from October 15, big news for those buying laddu-barfi.

Sweet Shop New Rule: While buying sweets during festivals, most people pay attention to its taste and price. But it is also important to know how old the sweets are and when they can be eaten. Especially when the sweets are kept on the counter of the shop without a packet. Now a new rule regarding such sweets is going to be implemented in Uttar Pradesh.

From October 15, 2026, shopkeepers in the state will have to declare the ‘use by date’ of open sweets. That is, when customers go to the shop to buy laddu, barfi, peda or other loose sweets, they will be able to get information about the last date of using that sweet. Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has issued instructions in this regard.

Now sweet dates will be available on shop counter also

Till now, information related to manufacturing and expiry was given on the sweets available in packets. But when buying loose sweets, the customer often did not know when the sweet was prepared and for how long it would remain safe to eat.

After the new system, shopkeepers will have to display the last date of use near the open sweets. With this, customers will be able to get information about this while making purchases.

This rule is being implemented at a time when the crowd of customers at sweet shops increases due to festivals. In such a situation, getting information about the freshness of sweets and its safe usage period can be beneficial for the people.

Every sweet will not have to be tagged separately

Regarding the new rule, shopkeepers may have a question whether they will have to put separate tags on each laddu or barfi. It’s not like that. Date information will have to be given on the tray or container in which the sweets are kept for sale.

This information will have to be posted in such a place where customers can easily read it while standing. With this, even before purchasing the sweets, they will know for how long the respective sweets are prescribed to be used.

How will it be decided how long the sweets will last?

Not all sweets are the same. Some sweets can spoil quickly, while some can be kept safe for a long time if stored properly. Therefore, the same last date has not been fixed for every sweet.

The shelf life of sweets will have to be decided keeping in mind the ingredients used in sweets, the method of making them and the conditions of storage. According to the available information, this period for different sweets can range from one day to 30 days.

It will be the responsibility of the shopkeeper to give the correct date as per the nature of the sweet and its condition. It will also be important to keep in mind the quality and safety of the sweets till they are declared safe for consumption.

Sweet shops of Lucknow started preparations (Sweet Shop New Rule)

Preparations are also being made in the sweet shops of Lucknow regarding the new rule. According to media reports, information regarding this arrangement has been given in Ritz Continental and Ram Asare Sweet Shop.

The manager of Ritz Continental said that necessary information on packaged and non-packaged food items is already being given at their place. At the same time, preparations are being made by Ram Asare Sweet Shop to display information related to manufacturing and expiry on open sweets.

What should customers keep in mind while purchasing sweets?

While purchasing loose sweets, customers will now be able to see their expiry date. Apart from this, attention should also be paid to the condition, colour, smell and way of keeping the sweets in the shop.

Sweets cannot be considered completely safe just by looking at the date. If sweets are not stored properly, their quality may be affected.

The new rule will increase the responsibility of shopkeepers and customers will also get more information than before at the time of purchase. This can help people in taking decisions while purchasing sweets.
