Trouble seems to be on the rise for Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan’s nephew and actor Imran Khan. The actor participated in a protest at Mumbai’s Kranti Maidan demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Subsequently, the Mumbai Police issued a notice to Imran Khan, asking him to leave India by October 28. Khan holds US citizenship. Therefore, the actor has been prosecuted under the relevant section of the Immigration Act for participating in such protests in India despite not being an Indian citizen. The actor has received a copy of the notice.
Earlier, after Imran Khan participated in the protest, former Bharatiya Janata Party leader and ex-MP Kirit Somaiya expressed his displeasure and wrote to immigration officials and the Union Home Ministry seeking to issue a look-out circular against Imran Khan. He directly questioned Imran Khan as to why he is participating in domestic political activities and protests in India when he is an OCI card holder and holds US citizenship. He demanded that the police take strict action against the actor in this matter and demanded that the Mumbai police should investigate the actor and not allow him to leave India. Kirit Somaiya in his complaint sought the issuance of a lookout circular against the actor, after which all eyes were on the next steps of the Mumbai Police and the Immigration Department. And now, after this whole controversy, Imran Khan has been forced to leave the country.
