Jio Platforms IPO Price Band Set at Rs 1,119; Issue Could Raise Rs 30,213 Cr

Jio Platforms Ltd, the digital services and telecom arm of Reliance Industries, has fixed the price band for its much-anticipated initial public offering (IPO) at Rs 1,065-1,119 per share. The public issue could raise Rs 30,213 crore at the upper end of the price band, potentially making it the largest IPO in India’s stock market history.

The IPO will open for subscription on Wednesday, October 21, and close on Friday, October 23. Anchor investor bidding is scheduled for Monday, October 19, according to regulatory filings by Reliance Industries.

The price band was approved by the IPO committee of Jio Platforms’ board at a meeting on Wednesday. The offering will comprise a fresh issue of up to 27 crore equity shares, each carrying a face value of Rs 10.

Jio Platforms IPO to Surpass Hyundai Motor India’s Record

If the issue raises the targeted amount, Jio Platforms will surpass Hyundai Motor India’s Rs 27,858.75 crore IPO, which set the existing record in 2024. The proposed offering will also be significantly larger than the Rs 20,557.23 crore IPO of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) in 2022.

At the upper end of the price band, the Jio Platforms IPO would be approximately 47% larger than LIC’s public issue, highlighting the scale of the planned market debut.

The offering is expected to attract considerable investor attention given Jio Platforms’ position in India’s telecommunications and digital services markets. The company operates within the broader Reliance Industries ecosystem, which has expanded its presence across connectivity, digital applications and technology-driven consumer services.

The proposed listing could also become a significant milestone for India’s primary markets, particularly as investors assess the valuation and long-term growth prospects of one of the country’s most prominent digital businesses.

Jio Platforms IPO: Employee Discount and Shareholder Quota

The IPO includes specific reservations for eligible employees and shareholders of Reliance Industries. Employees applying under the reserved portion will receive a discount of Rs 54 per share.

According to the regulatory filing, up to Rs 500 crore worth of shares will be reserved for eligible employees of Jio Platforms. A separate reservation of up to Rs 2,500 crore will be available for eligible shareholders of Reliance Industries.

These provisions give eligible participants an opportunity to apply through designated reservation categories, subject to the applicable terms and eligibility requirements.

The structure of the offering also distinguishes it from some of India’s largest previous IPOs. Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 issue and LIC’s 2022 offering were entirely offers for sale (OFS), through which existing shareholders sold their stakes.

In contrast, Jio Platforms’ proposed IPO will consist entirely of a fresh issue of shares. Consequently, the proceeds raised through the offering will go to the company rather than to existing shareholders selling their holdings.

Jio Platforms IPO: Lot Size and Minimum Investment

Retail investors and other applicants will need to consider the prescribed lot size when placing their bids. The minimum application will be for 12 shares, with subsequent bids accepted in multiples of 12.

At the upper price band of Rs 1,119 per share, an application for one lot will require an investment of Rs 13,428, excluding any applicable charges.

Investors should also review the final offer documents for details regarding reservation categories, application limits and other conditions before submitting their bids.

The shares are expected to list on the stock exchanges on Wednesday, October 28, following the completion of the subscription process and associated allotment formalities.

Jio Platforms IPO: What Investors Should Watch

The proposed IPO is set to be one of India’s most closely watched market events, given its potential size and Jio Platforms’ role in the country’s digital economy.

Investors will likely focus on the company’s valuation, financial performance, business growth and competitive position as they evaluate the offering. The distinction between a fresh issue and an offer for sale will also remain important, as the proposed structure directs the proceeds to the business.

With a potential fundraising target of Rs 30,213 crore, Jio Platforms could establish a new benchmark for Indian IPOs. However, the scale of the offering alone does not determine its investment appeal. Investors will need to assess the company’s fundamentals, pricing and longer-term prospects before making a decision.

As the subscription window approaches, market participants will be watching closely to see how investors respond to the country’s potential largest-ever public issue.
