YSRCP has alleged that the convoy of MP PV Midhun Reddy, who was going to file nomination for the local elections in Punganur municipality, was attacked by TDP workers. The party has demanded action from the Election Commission and ensuring the security of the candidates.
Tezzbuzz Desk – Political tension has increased regarding local elections in Andhra Pradesh. The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday alleged that Telugu Desam Party (TDP) workers attacked the convoy of its Lok Sabha leader and Rajampet MP PV Midhun Reddy in Punganur municipality. According to the party, the incident occurred on Thursday when Midhun Reddy was going to file nomination for the local elections along with party candidates and leaders.
According to information released by the YSRCP party office, the alleged attackers tried to stop the convoy and threw stones at the vehicles. The party alleged that the workers also attacked with sticks and iron rods. YSRCP claims that TDP leaders and workers tried to stop its candidates from reaching the nomination centers and vandalized the vehicles of party leaders.
The party also alleged that the policemen present at the spot failed to stop the alleged attackers. The YSRCP has condemned the incident and accused the TDP-led government of using violence against opposition candidates and disrupting the election process. However, information to independently verify these allegations is not available.
YSRCP has demanded the State Election Commission to intervene in the matter and direct the police to register criminal cases and arrest those responsible. The party also demanded action against police officials who failed to stop the alleged incident. Further, it has appealed to provide security to the candidates and their proposers and ensure hassle-free filing of nominations for all affected candidates.
Meanwhile, YSRCP leader Jupudi Prabhakar Rao has accused the TDP-led coalition government of Andhra Pradesh of carrying out political vendetta against party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.
While interacting with the media in Tadepalli, Prabhakar Rao claimed that TDP filed cases against Jagan Mohan Reddy in coordination with Congress and now efforts are being made to take political advantage of the issue. He alleged that Jagan was cooperating with the courts, but a conspiracy was being hatched to keep him in Hyderabad through Enforcement Directorate (ED) proceedings.
The YSRCP leader also questioned the timing of these actions. He claims that this development has come at the time of Jagan Mohan Reddy's plan to launch a public relations program and the upcoming local body elections.
At present, YSRCP has demanded action regarding the alleged attack on Midhun Reddy's convoy. Further official action regarding the allegations made in the case and the role of the police will be monitored.
