Chandigarh. The political turmoil has intensified over the continuous killings of anti-drug activists in Punjab. Two days after the murder of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa, the murder of 40-year-old Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur has raised serious questions on law and order.
BJP National President Nitin Naveen posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and said that the drug crisis in Punjab has reached dangerous levels. The murder of Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur, just two days after the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota, shows the complete breakdown of law and order under the AAP government.
He raised the question that when the people who raise their voice against drugs in the society start fearing for their lives, then in which direction is Punjab going? Punjab needs decisive action against drug mafia and safety of citizens.
Reposting Nitin Naveen’s post, Punjab BJP State President Kewal Singh Dhillon said that he completely agrees with this. When those who raise their voice against drugs are being gunned down in broad daylight, it is not just a failure of policing but a sign of complete failure of governance. The murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa and Bikramjit Singh in Gurdaspur in two days has broken people’s trust in the AAP government. Punjab needs answers, not advertisements. Action is needed, not declarations. Drug mafia and gangsters have to be crushed and every political patronage behind them has to be exposed. BJP will make Punjab drug free, gangster free and safe.
At the same time, BJP Rajya Sabha member Tarun Chugh also made serious allegations on the law and order situation of the state. On the murder of Parvinder Singh Jhota, he said that Punjab has reached a very dangerous situation. Murders are taking place continuously, grenades are being thrown at police stations and those who reveal the truth are being shot. So much pressure was put on Gulzar Singh that he committed suicide after raising the issue of selling of chittas. The police took Mohanjeet away and asked him not to mention the name of the mafia.
On Punjab’s law and order situation, Tarun Chugh told IANS that he is surprised that the Punjab Finance Minister is acting like a lawyer for the mafia, justifying their actions and speaking in favor of drug peddlers. Didn’t Cheema know that Jhota had reached the spot to seize the drugs? When he was shot, was he not carrying the packet of drugs he had purchased? Whom does Cheema want to save from the mafia and why?
He further said that BJP is a cadre based organization and we are committed to take Punjab out of the drug trap and tackle extortion, fraud and deceitful politics. Gangsters are using jails as their offices and law and order is deteriorating in Punjab. In cities, prominent people are being targeted and shot, extortion is being collected and firing is being done outside houses to scare people.
