Big steps will be taken to control pollution in Delhi from November 1. Commercial vehicles with BS-4 or lower emission standards will be banned from entering Delhi. However, CNG and electric vehicles will be exempted from this ban. Gurugram Traffic Police gave this information on Friday. The decision aims to strengthen efforts to control pollution in Delhi.
Which vehicles will the ban apply to?
According to the advisory issued by Gurugram Traffic Police, this ban on entry into Delhi will be applicable on light goods vehicles (LGV), medium goods vehicles (MGV), heavy goods vehicles (HGV), other trucks and buses. The advisory states that apart from CNG and electric vehicles, diesel buses and trucks with BS-4 emission standards will also be exempted. At the same time, the ban will also apply to vehicles running under All India Tourist Permit (AITP) and vehicles used in other services. However, buses registered in Delhi will be exempted from this ban.
Traffic police gave advice to transport traders
Gurugram Traffic Police has appealed to transport traders, drivers and bus operators to check the emission standards and registration information of their vehicles. Police have said that before entering Delhi, ensure to follow the prescribed rules, so that there is no problem due to the ban. According to the advisory, these measures are being implemented with the aim of controlling air pollution and protecting the environment.
Delhi government had issued guidelines for pollution control in July.
The Delhi government had issued several important guidelines in July to control the increasing air pollution in winter. Under this, from November 1, only 50 percent of the employees in government and private offices will work from the office at a time, while the remaining employees will have to work from home.
Apart from this, a provision has also been made to double the parking fees of vehicles from November 1 to February 28. Under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), the government had announced automatic implementation of various restrictions to be implemented during the entire winter due to increase in pollution. The government argues that this system will reduce the need to issue separate orders every time and the concerned departments will be able to take action in real time if the pollution level increases.
Pollution in Delhi-NCR increases in winter
Air pollution levels increase significantly in Delhi-NCR during winter, due to which people have to face breathing and other health related problems. Every year many steps are taken by the government to control pollution, but questions have been raised regarding their impact.
New EV policy also implemented
The Delhi government has implemented the new Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 from July 1 to promote electric vehicles in the capital. Under this, a provision has been made to provide subsidy and various incentives on purchasing new electric vehicles. The government aims to strengthen efforts to reduce pollution by promoting the use of electric vehicles.
