Jodhpur. Hopes of saving 9-year-old Bhomaram, who had fallen into a borewell in Phalodi district of Rajasthan, were dashed late on Friday night when he was pulled out after fighting for his life for about 39 hours. However, upon reaching the hospital, doctors declared him dead.
Teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were making continuous efforts to save the innocent child, but ultimately he could be pulled out with home-made jugaad.
According to the information, Bhomaram had fallen into a 1050 feet deep borewell on October 15 at around 12:30 pm in Poonia Ki Dhani. He got stuck at a depth of about 640 feet.
As soon as information about the incident was received, the rescue operation was started. The condition of the child was being monitored by installing a camera in the borewell, but on the morning of 16 October, his movement stopped being visible in the camera. This further increased the concern of the people involved in the rescue operation.
A big stone stuck inside the borewell became the biggest challenge in the operation to rescue the child. This stone was stuck about 30 feet above Bhomaram.
Due to this, there was difficulty in reaching the rescue equipment and pipes to the bottom. About 34 hours after the incident, the stone could be taken out with the help of indigenous technology. After this the final attempt to rescue the child began.
Madaram and his team, who devised a home-made jugaad to rescue people from borewells, created a special device by welding iron leaves.
Based on the view obtained from the camera, it was shaped to suit the structure inside the borewell, so that there is no additional pressure on the surrounding soil and structure while going down.
According to team member Jagmal, the tong-like lock of the equipment was designed to catch the child when it was lowered into the borewell. After this, a plan was worked out to slowly pull him up with the help of a rope.
After the stone was removed, an attempt was made to take out Bhomaram using the same technique late on Friday night and he was taken out of the borewell at 3:35 pm.
During this rescue operation which lasted for about 39 hours, the family members and villagers were hopeful that the innocent child would come out safely.
When he was taken out late at night, he was immediately taken to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead. Despite long efforts to save the child, his life could not be saved.
