In view of the Durga Puja festival, on Saturday, Block Supply Officer Neha Kumari conducted a surprise inspection of various sweet shops in the Municipal Council area. During this, he thoroughly checked the quality, cleanliness of the sweets kept for sale in the shops and the valid licenses of the shops. As soon as the news of this sudden inspection conducted by MO in the shops spread, there was panic among the sweet shopkeepers of the city. Many shopkeepers were seen hurriedly adjusting their arrangements.
While giving instructions to the shopkeepers, the Block Supply Officer said that playing with the health of customers during the festival will not be tolerated at any cost. If any complaint is received about selling adulterated or chemically laced sweets in any shop or adulteration is found in the investigation, then strict legal action will be taken against the concerned shopkeeper. The shop can also be sealed immediately.
MO Neha Kumari gave strict instructions to the shopkeepers to sell pure, fresh and quality sweets as well as maintain high level of cleanliness in the shop premises. He said that sweets made with chemical colors and substandard ingredients have extremely adverse effects on the health of common people, hence take special care of purity.
MO said that this campaign will not be limited to the city only, but all the sweet shops in the block area will be checked sequentially. Strict legal action will be taken under the Food Safety Act against shopkeepers who violate the rules.
It is known that for the past several days, the shops of food vendors in the city are being continuously inspected. A representation has been sent to the senior officers for action against the irregularities found in many shops.
